Alternatives to the Sigma 150-600mm OS Contemporary Lens. The 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens was Sigma's prior entry into this lens class. Comparing the Sigma 150-600 Sports to the Sigma 150-500 OS shows the new lens having a very strong advantage at the long end. I would rather have any of the 150-600mm lenses over this earlier model. Rick, I sold the EF 2X III several years before I picked up the R5 and R6. I bought it mainly out of curiosity and just didn't like the IQ hit using the 5D mark IV and EF 100-400L II. I also have the EF 1.4X III, which was/is manageable on that rig with proper light and some post but it didn't transfer, to my liking, on the R's.
2. Hi ajamils, My SIGMA 60-600 mm f/4.5-6.4 is a really cool lens, used with my EOS R, it's produces very sharp images, even at 600 mm, very good for compressed landscape photography, wildlife, close-up nature and sports. IMHO, it is more versatile than the 150-600 C.
Am trying to get 1.4x extender for my Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens (canon Mount), would like to use it for wildlife / bird photography. Camera am using: 5D Mark III (placed order for R5 - waiting on it :)) Does 1.4x TC works well on this lens? If So which one should i get Canon 1.4x or Sigma 1.4x

I had been observing a lot of chatter about the performance of 3rd party lenses with the new RF mount. In particular the comments that the very popular Sigma 150-600c has focusing issues on the RF mount.
I didn’t mount my EF 100-400ii + EF 1.4x iii for a direct comparison yet, but I can say that the AF was significantly faster and more consistent than this combo on the 7D2 (I don’t have the Tamron 150-600, or the Sigma). You’re in for a real treat with the R5 no matter what lens you attach though.

The EF 70-300L is NOT compatible with Canon's teleconverters - they will physically not fit on this lens. The new 2X TC III works very well for me on the 500. Attached is a sample image from the 7D MK II using the Canon 500L f/4 II + Canon 2X TC III. Shot wide open @ f/8, uncropped. I have tons more from a trip to Arizona last week. The only restriction with the 2X TC III is the lack of autofocus on lenses slower than f/4.
The Sigma 150-600 Sport focuses quite fast on a Nikon D300 and blazing fast on a Nikon D500. The bare Nikon 300mm f2.8 may be a touch faster, hard to differentiate a difference and the same is true with the 1.4x TC.
