I've installed another one, did an GPS altimeter calibration again, it worked fine even after a restart, but only for a couple of hours. Now, again, the altimeter doesn't show anything. I did 2 soft resets, pushing the Light button until the watch stoped but still the same problems with the altimeter but now the watch face works just fine.
It appears the altimeter is actually working because when I calibrate it or the barometer manually I can watch it register and update the altitude dynamically. I've factory reset, soaked it for a half hour in warm soapy water, clean it regularly and meticulously, etc. Unit is around one year old.
The GPS was okay if I never stopped, but when climbing a 14er, of course one stops regularly. The more I stopped, the worse it performed when compared to my Garmin 66i. The altimeter was useless. I could set it for my current altitude, and within a few hundred feet of altitude gain it would be way off. I was wondering if the Fenix 6 was any
+1 Garmin - Chris 2 months ago Your best bet with your issue, if not already tried, calibrate your altimeter before any Outdoor activity profile. If your altimeter issues are consistent regardless of what outdoor activity you are using, your altimeter is most likely failing when taking into account the amount of time you have owned your watch.

Thanks for the responses, initially by amending the setting to altimeter the altimeter started working but the barometer stopped (understandably having read the instructions that you kindly provided) I then set it to Auto and recalibrated the altimeter using GPS and it looks like both the altimeter and barometer are locked up as neither have moved for the last hour. Fenix 5X+ - the most wobbly tracks by far. Distances seem in the ball park, but the tracks look poor. Fenix 6X Solar - very close to the V800. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. V800 edges it overall. Some say that the Forerunner series is better than Fenix due to plastic shell vs metal and better satellite signal as a result.
Ive had an old Forerunner and then a couple of Vivo's and then a Fenix 5S. Now I have a Fenix 5X. I never had any issues until I got the Fenix 5S. I;ve had it for not even a year when I noticed that the GPS was weird. It would just stop recording GPS even when the activity (run) is still going and it is recording other metrics (steps, strides
My Fenix 5 plus also misses to count several stairs climbed per day. :(And that, although the altitude difference exceets 3m. I noticed, that my watch is ALWAYS refusing to count one particular stair. The stair has a total of 20 steps and changes direction by 180° in the middle.
For me the issue has fixed by itself after factory reset and few days waiting. My 5 has been going completely haywire as well. Looked back and this happened with the 6.0, 7.0 7.10 beta firmware. Last week an hour run it said I gained 40' but lost 25,000'. I'll set it to the known elevation before I go to sleep, wake up, its at -65,000.
On the F7 you will find the altimeter and barometer calibration menus are identical. You can also set the barometer in 3 modes, Auto mode, it tries to guess whats happening. Altimeter mode where all pressure changes will be attributed to you changing altitude in some way.
Here is my email from garmin on same issue: step 1: I would next recommend cleaning the watch: Run low pressure, warm water over the sensor port Gently remove any visible debris. IMPORTANT: Do not put any objects into the sensor port! Shake away excess water and allow to air dry Calibrate the altimeter. step 2: I do have one last test I would
Garmin fenix 5X altimeter issues. Hi, I have garmin fenix 5X and my altimeter/barometer not working properly. When a try to calibrate it it says calibration failed. During activity it miscalculate elevation by +30-50%. Also it is not counting stairs/flights i have always 0. Also barometer not showing anything.

After update to 5.1. and installing Spotify I found out Altimeter Barometer and Thermometer does not work. It shows only ---. I am able to calibrate altimeter with gps but I can do nothing about Barometer and Thermometer. Since updating my unit, the altimeter consistently varies wildly. For example, every morning my unit (which I sync at night at my home) s significantly less than it should be. My home is at 162m ASL but since the v7.00 update, leaving it on my counter over night, I will wake up to it showing 40m or even a few times -100m, etc.
Wondering if it is a common fault, as after 6 months of having my second Garmin Fenix 5S I am having the following issues: altitude, barometer and temperature all stuck at set altitudes. I have followed Garmin's troubleshooter and clean my watch regularly.
bmitchell09 over 6 years ago. I'm having an issue with my altimeter on my 5x. It goes up and down while sitting on the table next to me-currently a high of 3067 and a low of -467 over the last hour. I live at 1000 ft asl. Prior to that, I didn't notice any issue and the graph shows it steady until it moved up 2000ft in a short time and then The jumpmaster feature is for use by experienced skydivers only.
